Be your own cheerleader

Sometimes we let doubt and fear invade our minds. This situation can hinder us from moving forward, from not thinking creatively. At this point it is our job to be our own cheerleader. We need to become our own source of motivation.

Any huge building, any bridge, any fortune 500 company, was built by people, and it usually started with just one person's vision. Imagine if this person would have just said: "this is too big for me, I can't do it." The project would have never been completed or even started.

We pioneer needs to overcome resistance and self-sabotage. He needs to believe he can, because he needs to infect others with the seed of possibility. The truth is that any large undertaking does need more that one person to help achieve this vision. The job of the entrepreneur is to bring a vision to reality and make others believe also believe in this vision.

You are not the only one that's afraid

If when you, launch a new project, start a new job, or take on a new challenge in you life, you feel a tad nervous and perhaps scared. You must know that it is normal. Actually you must realize that this feeling may be a sign that you are on the right path because you are challenging yourself.

You are not alone in this way of feeling. Every one that decides to take on a new challenge, a risk in their lives is bound to feel at unease. Kids on their first day of school, a teenager that decides to go to college, an entrepreneur launching their new project. Every single person that try to do something and  improve their lives is bound to feel fear at some point. The trick is to understand it and control it and even use it as a force to propel you forward.

This feeling is most likely a fear of failure, a fear of thinking that you were wrong or that you weren't good enough. It could be paralyzing. In order to break through it, you must confront it and break it down by rationalizing it. What is is the worst that could happen? Assume the worst case scenario and then try to improve upon it.

Detatchment is key for overcoming problems

Whatever the worst case scenario, just assume it. It will be liberating, it will free you to think creatively and come up with solutions.

How to deal with moments of doubt

Unavoidably there is days and moments where self-doubt invades our minds. Despair can be a huge enemy into pushing our work forward, it holds us back. How do we deal with it? How do we get over it?

I think taking small chunks at the time can greatly minimize this feeling of despair. Lets focus on getting through today, though the next hour, to the next minute.

Regardless of how bad you feel about your situation, you need to remember that you are not alone. Everyone feels like this at some point or another. Challenges are part of living an exciting life.

You need to think: what's the worst that can happen? and so what if it happens? Confront your fear and it will all disappear.

At this moment we are very close to launching our jet charter site. I guess there is that fear of rejection, that fear to fail. However I know that I have to walk across and face this fear if I want to succeed.

Remember that every difficulty is an opportunity to grow.

So get outer and get excited, find your inspiration and face the sun again. Life is an absolute miracle!

My Moment of Realization

In the year 2008, I was hired by Darden Restaurants to be a front end developer in their web team. My salary was $50,000 per year, a very good salary by Orlando's standards at the time. The housing bubble had just burst and the US economy had completely collapsed. The overall atmosphere in society was very somber and depressing, people were loosing their jobs left and right. Even though I felt very fortunate to have a very good job in such difficult times there was something inside of me telling me that I was not a great fit for a 9 to 5 job and that I needed to further search for my true calling.

I used to listen to NPR's marketplace on the drive back from work. That particular day they were interviewing people that were very wealthy at some point but had lost all their money during the housing bubble. There was a particular interviewee that really called my attention.

This person had had at some point millions of dollars but had lost it all and was now homeless and sleeping in his friend's couch. Despite the circumstances he seemed calmed and assertive. He mentioned that he currently had a girlfriend and that he wanted to marry her but was waiting to have  at least 2 million dollars in the bank, and then he proceeded to tell the interviewer how he already had a business plan in place that was going to provide 2 million dollars for him in the next two years.

To me this was incredible, how was it possible that during this time when everyone was loosing their jobs this guy could claim that he was going to make 2 million dollars in two years? How could he be so assertive in his statement? What did he know that I didn't know? I was determined to find out.

I didn't care so much about his specific plan but what interested me more was the fact that one can have such conviction to say such bold statement. I wanted to have his assertiveness, I wanted to also be able to say outloud and with conviction that I too could reach any goal I had in life.

As soon as I got home from work I rushed to my computer and googled "How to make a million dollars" and I landed on an article that told me that the best chance to become a millionaire was to start my own business and the first thing that I needed to do was to educate myself on the subject.

That was the moment I realized that I could change my life situation if I could change my life's perspective.
